A Weekend in Chucktown

I’ve been to Charleston, SC quite a few times over the past few years for a bachelorette party, St. Patrick’s Day & a couple of quick little getaways. However, in all of those trips I’ve never really done the traditional touristy stops, so when my mom mentioned Charleston for our girls trip I was game! She had never been before, so I knew we were in for ghost tours, and history lessons and LOTS of exploring! That’s just what we did! We shopped, we ate, we drank, we explored. We fit a lot into a few days, so I will just highlight some of my favorites.

Shopping:

We stayed at a cute historical home right off of Cannon Street, so we were an easy walk to King Street and adorable local shops like Candy Shop Vintage and Cannonborough Collective. Both of these shops were ADORABLE and worth checking out. They are full of fun, hand crafted jewelry and cute local gifts. The new Taxidermy store is in that neighborhood too, and I spent quite a bit of time drooling over their gorgeous bags! I also loved Indigo, a boutique on Vendue Range with literally the cutest dressing rooms I’ve ever seen! Of course, you can’t visit Charleston without shopping the Historic City Market which is full of local vendors for art, jewelry, you name it they’ve got it!

Eating & Drinking:

Boy oh boy did we do a lot of this! Uptown Social & Henry’s on the Market both had very fun atmospheres and stellar happy hour prices! I had a delish sweet tea martini (only in the south!) at Pavilion Bar, which has beautiful rooftop views of the harbor.

There is no shortage of great food in Charleston, but my two favorite restaurants we visited were SNOB. & Five Church Charleston . SNOB had a very yummy brunch. Beware you will be stuffed after! Five Church is just a pretty cool place. It is in a church, and is decorated with angel wing light fixtures and stained glass. The food was excellent too, but the atmosphere is worth just popping in for a drink!

We also caught a fun drag show at Dudley’s, and for my Southern Charm fans we stopped by Shep’s bar Palace Hotel. It was quite the dive bar, but a really fun place to check out! I may have even gotten myself into a high kick competition, and… lost!

Exploring:

If you are planning a trip to Charleston, definitely take your walking shoes! We got our steps in over the weekend! We walked all over checking out the sites of Waterfront Park, The Battery, Rainbow Row and lots of beautiful historic churches.

My favorite adventures were a sunset cruise and a ghost tour. Our cruise was by Harborview Charters. It was about a 1.5 hour cruise around the harbor that offered beautiful views (plus it was BYOB!!) of The Battery, The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, and the USS Yorktown. We also saw quite a few dolphins and even some coyotes hunting seagulls!

The Candlelight Ghost Tour was a walking tour that took us around some of Charleston’s most haunted spots. We heard stories outside of some spooky graveyards, The Powder Magazine and Meeting Street Inn. This was a great tour to hear some of Charleston’s haunted legends, but also offered some history of the city.

It is safe to say we had a successful girl’s weekend away! If you haven’t visited Charleston, I’d highly recommend it. There is so much to see and do! And just like that, our trip is just water under the Ravenel Bridge…I’ll leave you with a few more photos from our adventure 🙂
