Here in Florida, a lot of us are beginning to return to the office this week. In my office we are back, but since we are still closed to customers we are rocking a business casual wardrobe. First I thought, how will I wear regular pants again! Once I moved past that, I thought what exactly is business casual? Business casual is generally defined as, “a style of clothing that is less formal than traditional business wear, but is still intended to give a professional and businesslike impression.”
I want to share some business casual basics that will be staples in your back-to-work wardrobe!
I love to pair a fun blazer with jeans. A blazer automatically ups your outfit, and gives you a business look. There are so many options when it comes to cut, color, fit, etc, so I encourage you to try a bunch & find your favorite blazer style. A good blazer can last you forever, so for your more basic ones it’s a good idea to invest in something nice. I have a handful of favorites, that are a staple in my wardrobe.
A nice blouse for work is an easier way to dress up jeans, and put together a great business casual look. Express’s portofino shirts are a staple in work tops for me personally. If I am going to skip the blazer, I like something with a collar, or more structured look. Structure presents better as a business look.
Generally speaking most people go with jeans or twill trousers for a business casual look. When looking for jeans, a dark wash presents more professionally. Make sure your jeans/trousers are tailored and have no rips or tears. Save those trendy rips and tears for the weekend!
Shoes are fun way to spruce up any outfit! When it comes to a shoe for work, I like a polished heel, flat or even a mule. I also look for comfort because eight hours is a long day for your feet! You’ll want to avoid flip flops, sneakers, worn out or unclean shoes.
I love a good bag for work. You can carry your laptop, iPad, papers, etc. A good bag is a must have for ANY work day look. Also, they’re a great way to add an extra little POP to your outfit!
You don’t have to deprive yourself of personal style for your work wardrobe! Just make sure to keep it professional. Add a pop of color with your blazer or shoes, or maybe add a colorful bag to a more neutral outfit. Have fun with it, but keep it professional & polished!
